How to renew your real estate license in New Jersey
To renew your real estate license in New Jersey, you must complete continuing education, submit an online qualifying questionnaire, file your renewal application, and pay the required fees.
New Jersey real estate license renewal steps
New Jersey real estate licenses expire on June 30 of odd-numbered years. Renew your license before the expiration date to avoid interruptions to your ability to practice real estate in New Jersey.
Step 1
Complete your continuing education requirements
Before renewing your license, complete all required continuing education.
New Jersey continuing education requirements include:
- Core topics
- Ethics
- Fair Housing and New Jersey Law Against Discrimination
- Agency
Additional credit hours may be completed in core or elective topics.
Approved elective topics include:
- Commercial real estate
- Property management
- Financing
- Land use
- Real estate valuation
- Foreclosure and short-sale transactions
- Residential real estate transactions
New Jersey also allows successful completion of one or more broker pre-licensure courses to satisfy continuing education requirements for the license term in which the course was completed.
First-year and second-year salesperson CE rules
Salespersons initially licensed during the first year of the license term must complete continuing education requirements before renewing.
Salespersons initially licensed during the second year of the license term are not required to complete continuing education for that renewal cycle.
For the current license term ending June 30, 2027:
- Salespersons licensed before July 1, 2026 must complete CE requirements
- Salespersons licensed on or after July 1, 2026 are exempt from CE requirements for the 2027 renewal cycle
All continuing education must be completed by April 30 of the renewal year.
Failure to complete CE requirements before the deadline results in a mandatory $200 late CE processing fee.
It may take approximately 10 business days for completed continuing education credits to transfer from your education provider to PSI and the New Jersey Real Estate Commission.
Be sure to save your course completion certificates and confirm your credits appear correctly in the PSI Continuing Education system before renewing your license.
Pro Tip: Complete your continuing education at least 30–60 days before the April 30 CE deadline to avoid reporting delays and late fees.
Step 2
Complete your online qualifying questionnaire
Before your license can be renewed, you must complete and submit your own online qualifying questionnaire through the New Jersey Real Estate Online Licensing Services system.
To complete the questionnaire:
- Log into your online licensing account
- Verify your email address
- Answer all required questions
- Submit the certification electronically
- Save your confirmation number and confirmation email
Depending on your responses, the New Jersey Real Estate Commission may require supporting documentation before renewal can be completed.
Step 3
Submit your renewal application and pay your renewal fee
After completing your continuing education and qualifying questionnaire requirements, submit your renewal through the New Jersey Real Estate Online Licensing Services portal.
Before submitting your renewal:
- Verify your contact information
- Confirm your CE credits have been reported properly
- Review your license information carefully
Current renewal fees include:
- Salesperson renewal fee: $100
- Broker renewal fee: $200
After submitting payment:
- Save your payment confirmation
- Monitor your renewal status online
- Verify your license remains active after processing
Any real estate license not renewed by the expiration date will no longer authorize the licensee to conduct real estate business in New Jersey.
