How to renew a Real Estate License in Massachusetts

Real estate agents need to renew their licenses at regular intervals as a requirement by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. The process of renewing your real estate license in Massachusetts is fairly simple and includes the following steps:

The first step towards your Massachusetts real estate license renewal is completing the required state-approved Massachusetts Continuing Education course.

Once you have completed your continuing education course and course exam, you need to go to the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons website and update your course completion numbers.

Lastly, you need to pay the renewal fees to complete the renewal process.

This two-hour Buyer Agency (RE02R24) course is designed for Massachusetts real estate licensees to examine the history and fundamentals of buyer agency, agency disclosure obligations, client counseling, and other legal issues. In Chapter 1, licensees review key agency-related definitions, the establishment of buyer agency relationships, and the OLD CAR duties agents owe to their clients. Chapter 1 also includes a refresher on how and when to provide the MA Mandatory Licensee-Consumer Relationship Disclosure form to consumers, the contents of this form, and the types of licensee-consumer relationships available in Massachusetts. In Chapter 2, licensees review dual and designated agency relationships and the essential elements of client counseling, including company policy, recordkeeping, buyer agent compensation, and the termination of buyer agency relationships. The remainder of Chapter 2 is spent on other legal issues, including the state and federal lead paint laws, psychologically impacted property, the Home Inspector Law, Chapter 93A of the Massachusetts General Law (the Consumer Protection Statute), and more.
