How to renew your real estate license in Massachusetts

Massachusetts real estate licenses must be renewed every two years through the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. To renew an active license, real estate salespersons and brokers must complete continuing education requirements, submit a renewal application through the eLIPSE portal, and pay the required renewal fee before the expiration date.

Massachusetts real estate licenses renew every two years on the licensee’s birthday. Renew your license before the expiration date to avoid interruptions to your ability to practice real estate in Massachusetts.

Step 1

Before renewing your license, complete all required continuing education.

Massachusetts continuing education requirements: 12 hours

Important continuing education reminders:

  • Continuing education credits do not roll over into future renewal cycles
  • Continuing education certificates should be retained for your records
  • REALTOR® Code of Ethics training is separate from Massachusetts state renewal requirements

Be sure to complete all continuing education before beginning the renewal application process.

Pro Tip: Complete your continuing education several months before your birthday renewal deadline to avoid delays and last-minute renewal issues.
