How to renew your real estate license in Louisiana
Louisiana real estate licenses must be renewed every year through the Louisiana Real Estate Commission (LREC). To renew an active license, real estate salespersons, associate brokers, and brokers must renew through the MyLREC Portal, pay the required renewal fees, maintain required Errors & Omissions insurance, and complete continuing education by December 31.
Louisiana real estate license renewal steps
Louisiana real estate licenses renew annually. The timely renewal period runs from August 1 through September 30, and all licenses must be renewed by December 31 to avoid expiration.
Step 1
Complete your renewal application through MyLREC
Louisiana license renewals are completed through the MyLREC Portal.
To renew online:
- Log into your MyLREC Portal
- Select the renewal option
- Review your license information
- Choose active or inactive renewal status
- Submit your renewal application and required payment
Current licensees do not need to complete a fingerprint-based criminal history review to renew.
If you are renewing to inactive status, LREC instructs licensees to select the paper renewal option in MyLREC, complete the form, choose the inactive status option, and submit the form by mail with the required fee.
Step 2
Meet your continuing education and E&O requirements
Salesperson license continuing education requirements: 12 hours
Broker license continuing education requirements: 12 hours
Active licensees may renew before completing CE, but all required continuing education must be completed by December 31.
Failure to complete required CE by December 31 is considered a violation of LREC law and rules and may result in an audit and possible fine.
Inactive license continuing education requirements
Inactive Louisiana licensees are not required to complete continuing education to renew an inactive license. However, inactive licenses must still be renewed every year to maintain inactive status.
Errors & Omissions insurance requirements
Active Louisiana licensees must provide proof of Errors & Omissions insurance when renewing. This may be done by:
- Selecting the LREC group insurance policy, or
- Submitting an Independent E&O Coverage form and policy declaration page
Licensees renewing in inactive status do not need to provide Errors & Omissions coverage.
Step 3
Pay your renewal fee and confirm your license status
Louisiana renewal fees vary based on license type, status, and E&O insurance selection.
Current renewal totals include:
- Salesperson renewal with LREC group E&O policy: $219
- Associate broker or broker renewal with LREC group E&O policy: $254
- Salesperson renewal with third-party E&O proof: $77
- Associate broker or broker renewal with third-party E&O proof: $112
Licensees who renew after September 30 are also subject to delinquent fees.
After submitting renewal:
- Save your payment confirmation
- Verify your renewed license status in MyLREC
- Confirm you are able to print your license
If MyLREC shows a “License Print Blocked” notice pending supervisor renewal, your supervising broker has not completed renewal yet. Once the supervising broker renews, the block should be removed.
