How to renew your real estate license in Kansas
Kansas real estate licenses must be renewed every two years through the Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC). To renew an active real estate salesperson or broker license, licensees must complete continuing education requirements, submit a renewal application through the KREC Public Portal, and pay the required renewal fee before the license expiration date.

Kansas real estate license renewal steps
Kansas real estate licenses are renewed every two years based on the licensee’s expiration date. Licensees receive a courtesy renewal reminder email approximately 45 days before expiration.
Step 1
Complete your continuing education requirements
Before renewing your license, complete all required continuing education.
Kansas salesperson continuing education requirements: 12 hours
Kansas broker continuing education requirements: 12 hours
Important continuing education reminders:
- Continuing education must be completed before renewing to active status
- The Kansas Required Core course is mandatory for all active renewals
- Code of Ethics is not required by KREC, although REALTOR® organizations may require it separately
- Continuing education courses may not be repeated for credit during the same renewal cycle
- Continuing education completed on the same day as a successful renewal applies only to the current renewal cycle. To apply CE toward the next renewal cycle, wait at least 24 hours after successful renewal before completing additional courses.
Inactive license continuing education requirements
Kansas inactive licensees are not required to complete continuing education to renew inactive status. However, all required CE must be completed before reactivation to active status.
Reactivation education requirements
If a Kansas license has been inactive:
- Less than 2 years: all missing CE must be completed before reactivation
- 2 or more years: 6 additional CE hours for each full inactive year must be completed, in addition to the immediate past renewal cycle requirements
- 5 or more years: the Kansas licensure exam must also be passed before reactivation
Pro Tip: KREC strongly recommends completing continuing education at least 7 days before expiration to avoid late fees and processing delays.
Step 2
Access the KREC Public Portal and verify your renewal eligibility
Kansas real estate license renewals are completed through the KREC Public Portal.
To renew online:
- Log into your Public Portal account
- Select the “MY RECORDS” tab
- Click “RENEW LICENSE” next to your license record
Before renewing:
- Verify your continuing education hours are properly reported
- Confirm your contact information is current
- Review your license expiration date
Licensees may verify their expiration date through the KREC License Search system or by reviewing their pocket card.
Licensees may still submit an online renewal while waiting for CE reporting. KREC will finalize the renewal once education is on file.
Step 3
Submit your renewal application and pay your renewal fee
Current Kansas renewal fees include:
- Salesperson renewal fee: $125
- Broker renewal fee: $175
A $100 late fee applies to renewals submitted after the expiration date. This includes situations where the renewal application is submitted on time but continuing education requirements are not completed before expiration.
Inactive licenses must still be renewed every two years to avoid expiration. Inactive renewal fees are the same as active fees: $125 for salespersons and $175 for brokers.
After submitting renewal:
- Save your payment confirmation
- Verify your updated license status in the KREC system
- Download or print your updated pocket card for your records
Most successful renewals generate a confirmation email and updated pocket card within 48 hours.

Kansas licenses not renewed before expiration enter expired status.
Expired license renewal period
Kansas licenses may still be renewed within 6 months after expiration. During this period:
- Late renewal fees apply
- Licensees may not legally perform licensed real estate activities until renewal is completed
License forfeiture
If a Kansas license is not renewed within 6 months after expiration, the license is forfeited. The licensee must then reapply for licensure through the full licensing process.
