How to get a Real Estate License in Kansas
Kansas requires 60 hours of approved education, successful completion of the national and state licensing exams, fingerprinting, and affiliation with a Kansas supervising broker. Follow these steps to earn your Kansas real estate salesperson license.
1
Confirm Kansas salesperson eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Review the Kansas real estate license requirements before starting.
2
Register with KREC for your pre-license number
Follow the Kansas Real Estate Commission salesperson requirements to submit your Salesperson Pre-Licensure application through the KREC Public Portal and pay the $85 fingerprint and application processing fee. Save your pre-license (PL) number and give it to your school so completed coursework can be recorded. Complete fingerprinting as directed by KREC, which you can do while working through your education and exams.
3
Complete 60 hours of approved pre-licensing education
Complete the 30-hour Principles of Real Estate course and 30-hour Kansas Practice Course through an approved provider. Choose Kansas real estate licensing classes that fit your schedule and finish the required course assessments. After you complete Principles of Real Estate, KREC can authorize you for the licensing exams.
4
Pass the national and Kansas licensing exams
Pass both salesperson exam sections through Pearson VUE with at least 70% on each section. Published exam information lists an $82 exam fee. Review the Kansas real estate exam guide for format and scheduling details, and prepare with Kansas real estate exam prep courses.
5
Affiliate with a Kansas supervising broker
Find a Kansas-licensed supervising broker before submitting your final application. Kansas does not issue an original salesperson license on inactive status.
6
Submit your Kansas salesperson license application
Follow KREC’s email invitation to apply online. Provide your supervising broker’s affiliation information, complete required disclosures, including criminal matters, and pay the $125 license application fee. KREC generally reviews complete applications within 7–10 business days, though this does not represent the total time needed to get licensed.
