How to get a Real Estate License in Arkansas
To become an Arkansas real estate salesperson, complete 60 hours of approved education, apply through the Arkansas Real Estate Commission (AREC), pass the Pearson VUE licensing exam and complete the requirements to activate your license. Here is how to get started.
1
Check Arkansas salesperson eligibility
Under the Arkansas salesperson licensing requirements, you must be at least 18 years old to apply. The Arkansas Real Estate Commission (AREC) also requires a state and federal criminal background check.
2
Complete 60 hours of pre-licensing education
Complete 60 classroom hours through an AREC-approved school or provider, including 30 hours in basic real estate principles. Choose an approved Arkansas real estate pre-licensing course that fits your schedule.
3
Submit your AREC application
Submit the Arkansas salesperson examination application, proof of age, Background Check Acknowledgment form, and $50 resident application fee. You may apply before finishing your coursework, but AREC will not issue exam eligibility until it receives proof of your completed education and background-check acknowledgment. Arkansas residents should wait for AREC’s emailed authorization before getting fingerprinted.
4
Get approved and schedule the licensing exam
Once AREC issues your Certificate of Examination Eligibility, schedule your Arkansas licensing exam with Pearson VUE. The salesperson exam includes general and Arkansas law portions, requiring a scaled score of 70 on each portion, not necessarily 70% correct. Prepare for testing with the Arkansas real estate exam guide.
5
Pass the exam and complete licensing paperwork
Pass both required exam portions, then ensure AREC receives your final licensing paperwork and applicable fees within 90 days of passing. Your background-check reports must also be received and approved before AREC can issue your license.
6
Work with a principal broker and complete post-license education
Affiliate with an Arkansas principal broker and submit the required activation paperwork before practicing. New salespersons must also complete 18 hours of post-license education by the end of the sixth month after initial licensure. An inactive license does not authorize real estate practice.
