How to get a Real Estate License in Nebraska
To earn a Nebraska salesperson license, meet the state eligibility rules, complete 96 hours of approved education, apply through the Nebraska Real Estate Commission (NREC), clear the fingerprint background check, pass both licensing exam sections, and complete license issuance. Follow these six steps:
1
Check Nebraska salesperson eligibility
Under the Nebraska salesperson eligibility requirements, you must be at least 19 before taking the licensing exam and have a high school diploma, equivalent credential, or qualifying home-school documentation. The Nebraska Real Estate Commission (NREC) reviews licensing and criminal-history disclosures.
2
Complete 96 hours of approved Nebraska pre-licensing education
Complete 96 hours of approved pre-licensing education: 30 hours of Real Estate Principles and Practices, 30 hours of Nebraska Real Estate License Law, 30 hours of an additional NREC-approved pre-license course, and the 6-hour Professional Practice Standards course (#0003).
3
Apply to NREC and request fingerprint instructions
Follow the NREC salesperson application process to file your application through the applicant portal before pursuing the criminal background report. Pay the application fee, submit required documentation, and request fingerprint instructions.
4
Complete the required fingerprint & background check
All original Nebraska salesperson applicants must complete a criminal background check. Follow NREC instructions for fingerprint cards or authorized collection. Background-report processing can take several weeks; the Commission currently reports an average of four to six weeks after fingerprint submission.
5
Pass the Nebraska salesperson licensing examination
After NREC approves you for testing, schedule the licensing exam through the approved testing provider. Earn at least 75% on both the national and Nebraska sections. Prepare with Nebraska real estate exam prep and confirm current exam scheduling and fees with NREC.
6
Submit passing reports and arrange license issuance
Follow the NREC license issuance procedures to upload both passing exam score reports to the portal and complete the license issuance form. To practice as a salesperson, arrange employment under the supervision of a licensed broker and meet applicable insurance and issuance requirements.
