Steps:

Step 1. Meet Wisconsin real estate license requirements as outlined by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services: 

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age. 
  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent. 
  • Possess a reputation for or record of competency, honesty, truthfulness, financial integrity and fair dealing. 

Step 2. Complete an approved 72 hours of Wisconsin real estate pre-licensing education. 

Step 3. Successfully pass the salesperson licensing examination by achieving a score of 70% or higher. 

Step 4. Submit your application to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, either electronically or via mail. 

How long does it take to get a Wisconsin real estate license? 

It varies depending on: the pace at which you complete your pre-licensing education; pass your licensing examination; how long it takes to find a sponsoring broker and complete the application process; and application processing times. 

Be aware that you must submit your application within one year of passing your licensing examination and within five years of completing your pre-licensing education. 

What kind of information will I learn to help me get a real estate license in Wisconsin? 

All Colibri Real Estate courses are approved by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Once completed, you are eligible to sit for the Wisconsin real estate license exam. 

Per Colibri Real Estate policy, the 72-hour pre-licensing coursework for salespersons must be completed within six (6) months of the start date. The start date for distance education courses is the date the course material is first accessed; the end date is when all required documentation is submitted to the provider. Applicants must complete a required 72-hour Wisconsin real estate pre-licensing course, which includes instruction in real estate law, types of interest and ownership in real estate, home ownership, legal descriptions, titles, liens, taxes, encumbrances, appraisal, finance, closings, and professional code of ethics.  

How do I take the Wisconsin Salesperson licensing examination? 

Licensing exams in Wisconsin are conducted by Pearson VUE Examination Services. You must make a reservation with Pearson VUE no less than 24 hours before your examination date. You will be expected to provide a non-refundable examination fee. 

How do I submit my Wisconsin Salesperson application? 

Once you have passed your licensing examination, you may submit your license application and required documents to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Wisconsin prefers that applicants use its online portal, LicensE. Create an account to begin the application process. 

Be aware that you must submit your application within one year of passing your licensing examination and within five years of completing your pre-licensing education. 

Does Wisconsin offer reciprocity? 

Wisconsin only holds reciprocal agreements with Illinois and Indiana. Applicants who are licensed as a broker outside of Illinois and Indiana can receive a license by applying through the endorsement agreement, which comes with an education requirement.
